This morning I was with two of my clients, Roy and Kevin. They started training with me back January. They were two lucky people to win a contest for Personal Training. They are featured in the Utah Valley Magazine ever couple of months. Every Wednesday we have what we have come to call, "Story Time".
This time has become one of our most beneficial times together.
The reason it has been termed story time is because, many of the other trainers and patrons of the gym would see us sitting around and just talking for an hour.
What are we doing? Is it a waste of their time? Am I just being lazy and taking the day off (probably this one)? No, we talk about nutrition. Roy brings her little nutrition book and shows me everything that the two of them have been eating for the last week. I critique it and give them a grade on how well they have been doing.
Roy usually gives herself an A+ for the day, and then I usually drop it down to a B+. She believes in grade inflation.
But actually Roy and Kevin are doing very well. With our "Story Time" we talk about nutrition. We go over any and all concerns that they may have, I make suggestions. We figure out what will work best for them and how to make it work.
At first Roy said, "I felt that our 'story time' was waste of time, but now I feel it is one of the most important parts of our success." And believe me they are seeing great success right now. To see how well they are doing check out the next issue of the UV Magazine.
Nutrition is going to play a huge roll in your success. Whether for your performance on the field, at work, or at home. I heard once that nutrition is 80% of the game. I don't know if I agree with that. I heard analogy that I really liked.
Nutrition and training are like the lungs and the heart. Which one is more important? Which one can you live without? Neither, they are both very important and both crucial to life. Much like nutrition and training. they are both important for your performance.
Today we were able to watch some video clips that helped explain ways to make eating on the go better and still strive for our goals.
Here are a few tips that we learned:
- Pack all of your meals in advance, so you don't have to guess what you will eat at any given time.
- If you do eat at a restaurant, you don't have to order from the menu.
- Any decent place will be able to serve you a chicken breast and salad or a salmon with steamed vegetables

- You don't have to eat everything that they serve you.
- Most places give you serving sizes that could feed a small family
- Take your leftovers home and eat them for a meal later.

- If you must eat at a fast food restaurant, go with grilled instead of fried choices. There are a few choices at each restaurant that can be fairly healthy.
For the next few nutrition posts I will be talking about the 10 habits of healthy eating and going more into depth with that.
Thanks
